This event marks the first-ever National Championships held in Malaysia. The Playoffs stage also constitutes the first offline event held in Malaysia since The Pokémon Company took over this region in June 2020, and the first offline event in the region since the Kuala Lumpur Regionals in December 2019. Only players residing in Malaysia could play this tournament.

With a cap of 128 entries, players would enter the Qualifiers to face each other in up to 7 Swiss rounds with open teamsheets, in best-of-one matches, on 28 May 2022.

The top 8 players at the end of the day would qualify to the Playoffs, which would be held in a live event in Kuala Lumpur on 11 June 2022. The Playoffs would consist in a classic seeded single-elimination bracket, with best-of-three matches and using the same teams as in the Qualifiers. The Grand Finals were played as best-of-five.

The winner would receive a Day 2 invite to the 2022 World Championships, as well as a Travel Award, while the rest of the top 4 players would receive Day 1 invites.
