Pokémon Scarlet & Violet — New Held Items

In Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet, 7 new Held Items have been added to the hundreds already available in previous games. These Items are all sure to have an impact in the metagame, and this page will compile all we know about them for you to stay updated!

These items are all found during regular gameplay, and most can be obtained through the League Officials in various Pokémon Centers, and also bought as many times as you want in the Delibird Presents Shops scattered across Paldea.

Clear Amulet

The Clear Amulet is an item that protects the holder from having its stats lowered by any moves directed at it, as well as the effects of other Pokémon’s Abilities. This means that moves like Icy Wind will deal damage as usual, but not drop the speed, like the Clear Body ability does.

However, any moves that lower the stats from the user, like Leaf Storm, will still have their effect regardless of the Item.

Obtainable in: West Province (Area One), in front of the Pokémon Center, as a reward for defeating 9 trainers in the area.
Can be bought at: Delibird Presents Shop in Mesagoza for P30,000.

Mirror Herb

The Mirror Herb allows the holder to copy an opponent’s stat increases to boost its own stats. For example, if your opponent uses Swords Dance, they get an attack boost; but the item activates and your Pokémon gets it, too.

This is a single-use item, which means that will disappear after activating the first time it can, even if the boost is not particularly useful for your Pokémon.

In picnics, if a Pokémon holds this Item and has a spare moves slot (only knows 3 or less moves), and is alongside a Pokémon that knows one of this Pokémon’s egg moves, it will learn this move.

Punching Glove

The Punching Glove is an item that boosts the holder’s punching moves by 10% (1.1x) while preventing direct contact with the targets. This means that abilities like Rough Skin or Iron Barbs do not activate upon using contact moves.

Obtainable in: Zapapico, in front of the Pokémon Center, as a reward for defeating 6 trainers in the East Province (Area 3)

Covert Cloak

The Covert Cloak is an item that protects the holder from the additional effects of moves, such as confusion, flinching or trapping you in the field. If these are the main effect of status moves, the item will not protect the holder.

With the Covert Cloak, you can safely say NO! to Rock Slide flinches and rend useless your opponent’s Fake Out, amongst many other use-cases.

Ability Shield

The Ability Shield is an item that protects the holder from having its Ability changed by others, whether due to a move, like Worry Seed, or an ability, like Mummy.

Loaded Dice

With the Loaded Dice, you always roll a good number! If the holder uses a multistrike move (moves that hit multiple times, like Bullet Seed), the move is more likely to hit more times than usual.

For most of these moves, that may only hit from 2 to 5 times, the game draws a roll for the amount of times the move may connect: 35% for two hits, 35% for three hits, 15% for 4 hits and 15% for 5 hits. If you rolled 4 or 5 hits, the item has no effect. However, if you rolled 2 or 3, then the Loaded Dice will re-roll the number of hits to be 4 or 5.

For multistrike moves that check accuracy on each hit, like Triple Axel or Population Bomb, the Item causes them to only check once. If the first check means the move will connect with the target, then the number of hits is rolled within the 4-10 bracket. That means, for example, that Triple Axel will always get the maximum 3 hits.

Booster Energy

The Booster Energy is an single-use item that activates upon switching-in and is consumed, so its effects are lost if you switch out and back in. It only works on Pokémon with the abilities Protosynthesis or Quark Drive to boost the holder’s most proficient stat by 1.5x if it’s the Speed, or 1.3x for all other stats. If two or more statistics have the exact same value (let’s say, two of your Pokémon’s stats are both 180, and all other stats are lower), the one coming first on the following list of stats will get the boost: Attack → Defense → Special Attack → Special Defence → Speed.

This boost is not listed on the contextual menu of the battles, which means that it seems to work independently from your regular -6 to +6 modifiers on stats. For example, if you use Swords Dance while the abilities are in play, the menu displays +2 while you’re actually at +2 relative to the 1.3x boosted stat, i.e. the Attack will be 2.6x boosted.

This item works alongside the weather and terrains in order to activate the abilities:

  • If your Pokémon with Protosynthesis or Quark Drive switches in while Sun or Electric Terrain, respectively, are active, the boost will be gained because of the field conditions and the Booster Energy will NOT activate. This means that the item’s effect is not stackable with the field conditions.
  • The stat boost provided by the field conditions remains active until the sun or the terrain are changed, in which case deactivates immediately in the middle of the turn. Alternatively, they expire at the end of 5 turns. In all cases, the game displays a message (“The effects of Protosynthesis/Quark Drive have worn off…”). At that point, the Pokémon will activate the Booster Energy immediately to keep the boost, and the item will be consumed for the remainder of the match (while the Pokémon is not switched out and back in).
  • If the Pokémon gets the boost from the Booster Energy and AFTERWARDS the field condition is met, the Item is not regained, there is not a new boost, and the boost is not lost either if the weather or terrain ends (while the Pokémon is not switched out and back in).

Obtainable in: Zero Lab in the pile of rubble (through regular gameplay).
