Overview
The Bochum Regionals is an official TPCI Regional-level event for Pokémon VGC, TCG and Pokémon GO. It is the third Regional-level event in the 2023 season in the European circuit, the second played in Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet and the first in the NAIC travel award race.
The ruleset is VGC Series 2 and it will be played using open team lists. This event is also the first-ever Regional-level event to feature the Two Day structure, previously only reserved for International Championships, which includes Day 2 Swiss rounds if there are 227 or more players.
A little bit of history
Germany has been part of the Europe region of the official TPCI circuit for many years. It has hosted multiple major events, including Regional Championships, old-era National Championships and the 2019 and 2022 Europe Internationals. Germany’s greatest VGC success happened when Markus Stadter reached semifinals of the 2016 World Championships.
The most recent tournaments held in Germany was the 2022 Bremen Regionals, played in the VGC Sword & Shield Series 12 ruleset in May 2022. The finals saw German Maurice Uteg defeat Italian Giovanni Piscitelli.
The last time there was an event in Bochum was the 2020 Bochum Regionals, played in Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield with the VGC Series 2 ruleset in January 2020. The finals saw Spaniard Guillermo Castilla defeat fellow countryman Álex Soto.
