Overview
The Thailand National Championships is the most important VGC competition for players in Thailand, where TPC is responsible for the circuit since 2020.
It is the third edition of the Thailand National Championships, always under TPC. See the previous editions:
- 2022, won by Chaiyawat Traiwichcha
- 2023, won by Panyawut Noijan
The tournament is played as a pure single-elimination bracket (similar to 2023) and, for the first time ever, the whole tournament is played in best-of-3 matches (previous editions only featured the top cut or even just the finals).
Even though the tournament is held in May, the ruleset is still VGC Regulation Set F (the official ruleset from January to April 2024), and it is played using open team lists including Nature.
A little bit of history
Thailand has been one of the regions hosting an the official TPC circuit since June 2020, and it was part of the Oceania region of the official TPCI circuit before that. Since the TPC takeover, it has taken part in Asia online tournaments, such as the Asia Players Cup, and has hosted the first-ever live event in 2022, the National Championship. Thailand’s greatest VGC success were Jirawiwat Thitasiri‘s victory at the Asia Players Cup, as well as Chaiyawat Traiwichcha‘s and Panyawut Noijan‘s National wins. Additionally, Thai players have proven themselves as a major team force and they achieved victory at the 2022 World Cup of Pokémon VGC.
The most recent tournament held in Thailand was the 2023 Thailand National Championships, played in Bangkok with the VGC Regulation Set C in May 2023. The finals saw Thai Panyawut Noijan defeat fellow countryman Krittapas Augchariyajinda to achieve his first major title!
